Interactive Story Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with ProPublica’s award-winning journalists to craft and develop engaging story experiences.

• Produce visually-driven narratives.

• Create multimedia features that enhance our daily storytelling efforts.

• Explore innovative story formats and graphical representations.

• Report to the graphics director and work in partnership with colleagues from various departments, including visuals, video, news applications, and product, as well as writers and story editors.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of three years of relevant design experience.

• A grasp of effective design principles and the ability to design for clarity and impact.

• Proficiency in conveying visual concepts through sketches and prototypes to visual journalists, reporters, and editors.

• Strong skills in web development, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

• A solid foundation in journalism; previous reporting experience is advantageous.

• A passion for detail and craftsmanship.

• A profound commitment to working on significant accountability stories and a willingness to explore the truth to promote reform.

• A knack for simplifying complex subjects in a clear and engaging manner for our audience.

• Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining organization and focus.

• Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings and training sessions.
