This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Vermont.
β’ In the capacity of an Examiner for the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation, Captive Insurance Division, your key duties involve conducting examinations and providing ongoing oversight of captive insurance companies based in Vermont.
β’ Adopting a risk-focused methodology, an Examiner will assess various aspects of captive insurance company operations and business practices, which encompass corporate governance, strategic initiatives, business planning, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting, and regulatory adherence to guarantee that the captive insurance company fulfills its obligations to policyholders and complies with Vermont regulations.
β’ An Examiner is also responsible for conducting research, participating in various task forces, undertaking special projects, and performing annual and quarterly surveillance for a designated portfolio of companies.
β’ The role requires a self-motivated individual with robust time management, organizational, critical thinking, and communication abilities.
β’ A Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a closely related field AND a minimum of two (2) years of experience at a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, INCLUDING at least one (1) year of experience in financial accounting for insurance companies.
β’ OR a Bachelor's degree AND four (4) or more years of experience at a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, INCLUDING at least one (1) year of experience in financial accounting for insurance companies.
β’ OR a minimum of eighteen (18) months of experience as an Insurance Examiner II with the State of Vermont, having successfully completed departmental performance criteria.
β’ Employees are required to achieve CPA or AFE (Accredited Financial Examiner) designation within two (2) years of hiring or promotion (not to exceed four years).
