
Installation Engineer – SDB, SEM

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +3 more states.
• Perform on-site installation of advanced electron microscopy and associated analytical systems.
• Adhere to established procedures for installation, alignment, calibration, and testing to ensure equipment operates correctly.
• Collaborate with customers, system users, and internal teams to facilitate a seamless installation process.
• Identify and resolve technical issues that may occur during installation or initial system usage.
• Assist with scheduled maintenance activities as necessary to maintain system performance.
• Offer troubleshooting and repair assistance to customers and field personnel.
• Travel frequently, often with little notice, to customer locations to support installations, address issues, or assist fellow field service colleagues.
• Accurately complete and submit field service and installation reports.
• Educate customers and users on fundamental system operation, maintenance expectations, and best practices.
• Provide insights to product quality, service, and engineering teams based on field observations.
• Assist with updates, corrections, and enhancements to Thermo Fisher system documentation.
• Clearly and professionally identify, isolate, and communicate outstanding system issues.
• Act as a technical resource and subject matter expert for colleagues, customers, and training initiatives.
• Comply with all safety, quality, and compliance standards while working with high-voltage, ultra-high vacuum, and complex electromechanical systems.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, electronics, physics, chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
• Over 3 years of hands-on technical experience in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of complex analytical or scientific equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.
• Preferred experience with advanced analysis tools including scanning electron microscopes, transmission electron microscopes, focused ion beam systems, or similar high-precision electromechanical systems.
• Strong preference for experience in diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum and high-voltage systems.
• Additional relevant technical certifications are a plus.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills in electronics, mechanics, and systems-level analysis.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot intricate systems and subsystems down to the component level.
• Capability to read and interpret schematics, technical diagrams, service procedures, and system documentation.
• Familiarity with ultra-high vacuum technology, high-voltage systems, precision instrumentation, and related safety practices.
• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to establish positive working relationships with customers, system users, and internal teams.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including professional proficiency in English.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities with the capacity to work independently in the field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Windows-based software environments, and service management tools.
• Ability to document service and installation activities with clarity and accuracy.
• Skilled in training and supporting customers on system operation and maintenance.
• Capability to respond to customer needs on short notice and manage shifting priorities.
• A valid driver's license is mandatory.
• Must be able to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as needed.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% within the assigned territory (US) or as business needs dictate.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory, manufacturing, research, or customer-site settings.
