This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Assigns the correct codes to accurately reflect all diagnoses and procedures during patient encounters.
• Extracts necessary data to enter into the Medical Center's computerized database.
• Transforms all patient visits into suitable DRG assignments to maximize reimbursement.
• Supports the IP Coding Manager with administrative responsibilities.
• Reviews patient medical records and abstracts medical information that identifies all diagnoses and procedures.
• Codes diagnoses, procedures, and relevant modifiers from medical record documentation utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Collaborates with the CDCI team to clarify information within medical records.
• Ensures a coding accuracy rate of 95% or higher.
• Works with HIM to monitor missing provider documentation.
• Keeps professional skills updated by participating in in-service programs, conferences, and workshops.
• At least five years of inpatient coding experience in a Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Facility.
• Must possess inpatient CCS, RHIT, or RHIA credentials from AHIMA.
• Proficient in medical terminology, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CPT-4 Coding conventions.
• Understanding of basic concepts related to human anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
• Experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS for coding diagnoses and procedures.
• Strong familiarity with health records, computer systems, Microsoft applications, data integrity, and processing techniques.
• Excellent organizational skills, capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing important tasks, and ensuring follow-through.
• Ability to work with precision and a keen attention to detail.
• Capability to resolve problems effectively using job knowledge and current policies/procedures.
• Must maintain strict confidentiality of all personal and health-sensitive information and ensure compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations.
