Inpatient Coding Specialist – Full Time

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Responsible for coding and abstracting diagnosis and procedure details from patient medical records in accordance with AHA ICD-10-CM/PCS coding standards, UHDDS, and CMS regulations.

• Employs the 3M Encoder to confirm and allocate AHA ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and to assign MS-DRG/APR-DRG classifications.

• Achieves a coding accuracy rate of 95% in data quality, as evaluated through quarterly quality assessments within the department.

• Ensures daily productivity and timely processing of tasks.

• Commits to staying informed about AHA ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM/PCS coding standards, as well as MS-DRG and APR-DRG principles and guidelines.

• Maintains an understanding of prospective payment systems as they relate directly to the coding process.

• Engages in departmental and sectional meetings, educational sessions, and workshops as scheduled.

• Retains knowledge of the clinical documentation improvement program and serves as a liaison for RN clinical documentation specialists.

• Exemplifies the Network’s core values and customer service principles in all interactions with customers (both internal and external).

• Safeguards the confidentiality of all materials managed within the Network/Entity and ensures the proper release of information.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess RHIA, RHIT CCS credentials from an accredited Health Information Technology or Management program.

• More than 3 years of experience in the coding field may be considered in lieu of coding credentials.

• A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated ICD-10-CM inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience in an acute care or teaching environment.

• Proficient knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and medical terminology is essential.

• Prior experience with EPIC health information computerized patient records and the 3M encoding system is preferred.
