This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Code inpatient medical records accurately and promptly, adhering to coding, CMS, and hospital guidelines.
• Evaluate low- to moderate-complexity medical records and assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.
• Utilize knowledge of MS-DRGs, APR DRGs, ROM, SOI, and POA assignment.
• Sustain productivity and quality metrics within established standards and UH billing timelines.
• Keep current with coding knowledge, credentials, and relevant regulations.
• Abstract specified data and enter it accurately into 3M encoder/Epic software.
• Adhere to facility query policy and CDI reconciliation procedures.
• Collaborate with and support the Clinical Documentation Integrity Team.
• Complete tasks within designated timeframes and scheduled calendars.
• Engage in educational and informational initiatives and fulfill other designated responsibilities.
• Protect confidential health information and comply with UH policies, standards, and training requirements.
• Associate's Degree, preferably in Health Information Management (Required).
• Bachelor's Degree (Preferred).
• Over 1 year of experience in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding (Preferred).
• Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
• Highly detail-oriented and organized, with strong time-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent client service, communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities.
• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in using PCs, Microsoft Office suite, general office equipment, and various systems.
• Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) is required upon hire.
