This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Coder will assess clinical documentation to assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes for Facility Inpatient records, ensuring hospital data retrieval aligns with billing and reimbursement needs.
• The Coder verifies MS-DRG calculations to accurately reflect the diagnoses and procedures recorded in the clinical documentation.
• Analyze and review clinical records to confirm that MS-DRG assignments correctly represent the diagnoses and procedures detailed in the clinical documentation.
• Extract clinical data from the record following the documentation review to guarantee its adequacy and appropriateness in supporting the selected diagnoses, procedures, and discharge disposition.
• Collaborate with client personnel and providers to uphold data integrity, provide clarification, and aid in understanding and determining appropriate and compliant coding practices, including issuing provider queries.
• Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment skills assessment.
• An active credential from AHIMA (American Health Information Association), such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or an active credential from AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) including COC (formerly CPC-H), CCS-P, CPC, or a related specialty credential is required.
• A minimum of two (2) years of recent and relevant hands-on coding experience with all record types, specifically Acute Inpatient.
• Uphold strict patient and provider confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Engage in client and staff meetings, trainings, and conference calls as requested or required.
• Take part in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and maintain current credentials.
• Support Savista’s Compliance Program by adhering to all relevant compliance policies and procedures, as demonstrated by in-service attendance and daily practices; report any compliance concerns or incidents to management; exhibit knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations by appropriately handling patient information; promote confidentiality and exercise discretion when dealing with patient and/or client information.
