This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• You will serve as the leading technical authority on a team of four to five engineers, guiding the technical direction while equally engaging in hands-on work.
• You will maintain close involvement with the architecture, code, and infrastructure while also shaping the project roadmap and enhancing the team's performance.
• Your main concentration will be on the application layer: the construction, observation, and scalability of services throughout the organization.
• You will develop the control plane, tools, and foundational infrastructure that hundreds of Deel engineers rely on daily.
• The prioritization of the team's work, roadmap development, and the tangible enhancement of developers' experiences at Deel will be entirely driven by you and your team.
• You will design patterns and infrastructure for a rapidly expanding Kubernetes ecosystem, influencing how hundreds of microservices are built, deployed, and effectively scaled on a global scale.
• You will be the principal escalation point during critical production incidents.
• You will automate secure provisioning, database configurations, and environment registrations, enabling teams to deploy to Dev, Demo, and Prod on the same day without infrastructure becoming a bottleneck.
• You will engage in projects of equivalent scale and complexity to replacing entire ingress controller fleets or migrating substantial backend traffic volumes to centralized API gateways without dropping requests.
• You will architect zero-downtime secret rotation, eliminate outdated credential injection methods, and enforce strict separations between sensitive data and GitOps-driven configurations.
• You will lead the advancement of our observability stack.
• You will architect and deploy new platform capabilities, from enterprise-scale real-time WebSocket infrastructure to ensuring our platform natively and efficiently accommodates the significant influx of event-driven and AI-driven workloads.
• Collaborate closely with DevOps, DBA, InfoSec, and product engineering teams to align with organizational objectives.
• Over 10 years of professional software engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically focused on infrastructure (AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, Helm, GitOps, CNCF landscape).
• Proficiency in writing production-grade code in Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, or Python.
• At least 2 years of experience serving as a technical lead, mentoring engineers, and successfully managing projects with distributed, cross-functional teams across various time zones (this is a player-coach role, without direct HR management).
• Demonstrated experience in designing high-performance, highly available distributed systems. You should possess deep familiarity with message brokers (NATS, Kafka) and developing event-driven architectures atop them.
• Experience in designing and managing systems that extend Kubernetes—whether by creating operators and controllers, integrating and customizing third-party tools, or architecting bespoke platform primitives on Kubernetes APIs.
• Strong operational experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), especially regarding their integration and scaling within a modern platform.
• You have successfully guided complex infrastructure projects from inception to delivery—crafting the roadmap, aligning stakeholders, meeting milestones, and effectively shipping.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You can clearly articulate complex architectural trade-offs to both product engineers and leadership.
• You are decisive, document your choices, and ensure that perfection does not hinder progress.
• Stock grant opportunities based on your role, employment status, and location.
• Additional perks and benefits tailored to your employment status and country.
• The flexibility of remote work, including optional access to WeWork.
