This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on GSD operational areas (Caribbean, Latin America, and South Pacific), maintaining awareness of natural hazards, evolving dynamics, and humanitarian needs; monitoring emerging trends and hazards to guide organizational priorities and strategic decisions.
• Work collaboratively with other departments to design, refine, and execute rapid damage, operational, and needs assessments for application during emergency response operations.
• Assist in training GSD personnel on the utilization of rapid assessments.
• Synthesize and analyze assessment results to aid decision making by GSD leadership during responses.
• Effectively communicate data findings, leveraging both written and visual formats, to influence decision-making and support disaster preparedness and response efforts.
• Create essential documentation, reports, and other informational products, both routinely and as requested by internal and external stakeholders.
• Support assessment initiatives, provide guidance on assessment design to ensure data quality, and manage data collection and analysis platforms and tools such as ArcGIS Survey123 and FieldMaps.
• Assist with ad hoc data requests within GSD’s established standard operating procedures and best practices.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders as necessary.
• Supply information for daily briefings during deployments and engagements.
• Offer informational support within GSD’s Operations Room during a disaster response, as needed.
• Uphold and promote GSD’s core values of accountability, humility, and integrity in all tasks.
• Encourage responsible stewardship of financial and other resources to maximize benefits for those affected by disaster or at risk.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience with a particular focus on the Caribbean, Latin America, or Pacific contexts.
• Demonstrated experience in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis, along with the ability to produce high-quality analytical writing, such as reports, analysis documents, and briefings.
• Prior experience in emergency humanitarian responses is preferred.
• A Bachelor’s degree in data science, international development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
• Strong analytical writing capabilities, with proven experience in drafting clear, insightful, and structured reports and documents.
• Extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
• Effective communication skills for presenting and advocating for data, analysis, visualization concepts, and data quality practices to GSD staff and partners.
• Experience in training or capacity building related to data collection, analysis, or reporting is highly desired.
• Familiarity with disaster management and humanitarian response concepts and approaches is preferred.
• Proficiency in written and verbal Spanish and/or French is highly desirable.
• Up to 25 days of accrued vacation.
• Up to 80 hours of annual sick leave.
