
Industry Segment Manager – Public Entity

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the primary subject matter expert for the Public Entity sector, delivering strategic underwriting and product guidance.
• Spearhead the formulation and implementation of segment strategies, business plans, and initiatives that align with profitability objectives.
• Manage portfolio performance, including overseeing profit and loss and long-term growth strategies.
• Examine premium, loss, and market data to uncover trends, opportunities, and areas for enhancement.
• Create and disseminate underwriting best practices, appetite, and guidance throughout the organization.
• Assess market opportunities and propose product improvements, new offerings, and enhancements to coverage.
• Compose and refine policy coverage language to accommodate the evolving needs of the market and customers.
• Collaborate with Claims, Risk Improvement, Actuarial, and other business units to fulfill segment goals.
• Provide expert advice on complex underwriting risks, including coverage, pricing, limits, and business acceptability.
• Review and sanction accounts that exceed regional underwriting authority and assess facultative reinsurance requirements.
• Facilitate underwriting quality assurance through audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead or engage in strategic projects, vendor partnerships, and product implementation activities.
• Design and deliver underwriting training, workshops, and educational resources while mentoring team members.
• Represent EMC and Corporate Underwriting at industry events, committees, marketing initiatives, and thought leadership engagements.
• Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a business or insurance-related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• A minimum of ten years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience, including at least three years in staff underwriting within the relevant industry segment.
• Preferred insurance designations such as AU, CIC, or CPCU.
• Advanced, demonstrated knowledge of nationwide underwriting techniques, terminology, policies, and forms relevant to the business area.
• Exceptional underwriting judgment and decision-making capabilities.
• In-depth understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs) and strategies for enhancement.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in presentations.
• Strong computer skills, including Internet and keyboard proficiency.
• Capacity to advise, collaborate, influence, and consult effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, executives, and project owners.
• Proficiency in simplifying and conveying highly complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into broader terms for business clients.
• Willingness to travel occasionally; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards is required for driving.
