Import Compliance Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the classification of imported goods in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).

• Supervise complete container import processes, which include booking, customs clearance, port coordination, and delivery to distribution centers or warehouses.

• Act as the main point of contact for customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to address clearance delays, documentation discrepancies, and duty disputes.

• Ensure adherence to CBP regulations, Importer Security Filing (ISF) requirements, and other federal import/export laws.

• Maintain and audit import records, entry summaries, and classification rulings for compliance and CBP audits.

• Oversee bonded warehouse operations, focusing on inventory control, CBP-required recordkeeping, withdrawal entries, and coordination with warehouse operators as per 19 CFR Part 19.

• Monitor tariff schedules, trade agreements, duty rates, Section 301, and antidumping/countervailing duties while evaluating their impact on the business.

• Identify and pursue opportunities for duty savings, including free trade agreement eligibility, bonded warehouse deferrals, duty drawbacks, and first sale valuations.

• Manage the duty drawback program by identifying eligible transactions, preparing and filing claims, maintaining necessary documentation, and overseeing service providers or brokers.

• Collaborate with procurement, finance, and legal teams regarding landed cost implications and sourcing decisions.

• Create and maintain compliance policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training resources.

• Supervise and mentor import compliance analysts or coordinators, when applicable.

• Monitor key metrics related to container transit times, customs clearance rates, and compliance audit results.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline.

• Over 5 years of experience in import compliance, customs brokerage, or international trade, specifically with HTS classification.

• In-depth knowledge of CBP regulations, Incoterms, and international shipping documentation such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, and certificates of origin.

• Proven experience in managing container shipments and coordinating with ocean carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.

• Familiarity with bonded warehouse (Class 3) operations along with experience in duty drawback claim preparation and filing.

• Knowledge of trade compliance software and ERP/TMS systems (e.g., SAP GTS, Oracle GTM, Descartes).

• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and cross-functional communication skills.
