IIoT Technical Lead – Architect, Ignition 8.x, OPC UA, Azure IoT

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

• Become part of a worldwide industrial technology consultancy focused on delivering automation and digital transformation initiatives.

• Influence industrial data streams from the shop floor to the cloud through multi-plant implementations.

• Engage in SCADA modernization projects, transitioning legacy systems to Ignition 8.x.

• Collaborate with automation engineers, enterprise IT departments, and cybersecurity experts.

⛳️ Requirements

• 4–8+ years of practical experience in implementing Ignition 8.x throughout complete project lifecycles.

• In-depth knowledge of Gateway architecture, Perspective/Vision, Tag Historian, Alarm Pipelines, Reporting, SSO, and Gateway Network for multi-site applications.

• Demonstrated capability in designing Gateway redundancy, distributed/edge, and multi-site configurations (monolithic, enterprise, hub-and-spoke).

• Proficient in scripting with Python/Jython for automation, transformation, and integration tasks.

• Strong understanding of OPC UA, MQTT (Sparkplug B), Modbus, and Ethernet/IP protocols.

• Practical experience with Kepware integration; skilled in connecting to various PLC families (Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff).

• Comprehensive knowledge of SCADA/MES concepts — including tag modeling, historian strategies, alarm design, and shop-floor dynamics.

• Experience with Azure IoT Hub, Event Hubs, Azure Functions, and Storage integration.

• Familiarity with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL for data pipeline and historian/BI integration.

• Working knowledge of ISA-95 and IEC 62443 principles — including certificate management, network segmentation, and secure tunneling.

• Ability to create and maintain reference architectures, naming conventions, development guidelines, and security standards.

• Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with automation engineers, IT architects, and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong documentation skills — you set the standards for others and can guide junior team members.

• C1 Advanced English proficiency (both written and spoken, as the team working language).
