HV Project Engineer – EPC

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Supervise the design of substations and transmission lines from a technical engineering standpoint.

• Ensure adherence to project specifications, IEEE/ANSI standards, relevant codes, and scope of work.

• Select, define scope, and manage subcontractors or internal engineering teams.

• Lead design teams consisting of 1-4 subcontractors for individual projects.

• Evaluate contracts for potential risks and client responsibilities.

• Support project management in selecting equipment and securing long-lead items.

• Conduct preliminary designs for upcoming projects, including SLDs and GAs for estimation purposes.

• Review, provide feedback on, and oversee HV designs and equipment acquired by Rosendin.

• Create and communicate conceptual SLDs, layouts, and transmission lines.

• Perform value engineering and back-check design packages to ensure quality assurance.

• Align design criteria with project budgets and project management objectives.

• Examine and annotate contract documents and represent Rosendin during client meetings.

• Mentor junior engineers, designers, and staff.

• Review, provide comments on, and process equipment and system submittals with the Engineer of Record.

• Develop electrical specifications and operational sequences.

• Coordinate equipment and system testing and commissioning processes.

• Facilitate process coordination among architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, project management, field, and electrical trades.

• Design and specify systems for PV, DG, BESS, and MV applications.

• Create power system single-line diagrams, size feeders and overcurrent protection, and draft equipment elevations.

• Execute short circuit, protection coordination, and Arc Flash mitigation studies.

• Perform voltage drop, voltage droop, and underground heat effect calculations using Neher-McGrath methodology.

• Coordinate designs with project specifications and equipment manufacturers.

• Conduct site visits to assess existing electrical conditions.

• Utilize engineering analysis software to evaluate loads, energy generation, lighting levels, and short circuit currents.

• Lead project design team meetings and collaborate with clients, architects, subcontractors, and engineers from other disciplines.

• Investigate and resolve issues related to drawing interpretations, conflicts, interferences, and errors.

• Represent the design team during construction and participate in Owner and Contractor meetings.

• Assist in the firm's marketing efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in engineering or construction sciences.

• 2-4 years of experience in electrical engineering design or engineering management related to MV collection, substations, and/or transmission lines for renewable or utility projects.

• Capability to take responsibility, collaborate, and coordinate with various stakeholders.

• Proficiency in analyzing and resolving complex engineering challenges.

• A combination of education, training, and relevant experience is acceptable.

• PE or EIT certification is preferred.

• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

• Proficient in remote productivity tools such as Box, Cisco, and GoTo Meeting.

• Familiar with AutoCAD.

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

• Eagerness to learn engineering software such as ETAP, EZPower, and Cymcap.

• Knowledge of IEEE Standards and a willingness to research and learn new standards.

• Effective and professional interaction with employees, management, vendors, clients, and others is essential.

• Willingness to travel 10-15%, including quarterly trips to Anaheim.

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
