This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Provide leadership and supervision for the daily operations of high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects, focusing primarily on substations (69kV–500kV), switchyards, and transmission interconnections.
• Create, implement, and continuously refine operational procedures and best practices centered on substations, ensuring compliance with utility standards, NESC, and OSHA guidelines.
• Mentor and cultivate field leadership staff, including superintendents, assistant superintendents, foremen, and craft labor, prioritizing technical proficiency and safety in substation construction.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and subcontracting teams to guarantee accurate design interpretation, timely delivery of major substation components (transformers, breakers, relays, P&C panels), and field readiness.
• Perform regular site visits and quality control inspections focused on substation installations, grounding, relay wiring, terminations, and equipment testing.
• Promote and exemplify a robust safety culture, emphasizing hazards associated with energized substation environments and high-voltage electrical risks, adhering to SOLV and OSHA standards.
• Direct task planning and crew mobilization efforts, providing clear guidance for civil, electrical, and commissioning scopes related to substations.
• Ensure adherence to all regulatory, utility, and internal standards pertinent to substation construction, energization, and operation.
• Act as the main operations liaison with utilities, project owners, regulatory bodies, contractors, and vendors, ensuring open communication and effective issue resolution.
• Monitor and oversee construction progress, commissioning milestones, and operational KPIs, providing updates and addressing challenges to senior leadership.
• Assist in the transition of projects to O&M teams following energization, ensuring all as-built documentation, testing records, and training resources are completed.
• Lead and engage in reviews of lessons learned to enhance future substation operations.
• 7–10 years of experience in high-voltage substation construction, commissioning, or operations, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Experience collaborating with IBEW locals in California and neighboring states.
• Proven success in managing utility-scale substation projects (greenfield or retrofit), encompassing civil, structural, electrical, and protection & control scopes.
• Extensive knowledge of substation equipment, grounding systems, relay coordination, SCADA integration, and utility interconnection protocols.
• Demonstrated experience in operational planning, budget management, resource allocation, and oversight of contractors.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E and designation as a “Qualified Person” is preferred.
• OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification is mandatory.
• Proficient in scheduling and project management software (P6, MS Project, Procore, or equivalent).
• Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Capability to analyze issues, propose solutions, and make independent field-level decisions.
• Willingness to travel frequently and support site operations in remote or diverse settings.
