HS Mentor/Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Act as the intermediary between students and the administration, advocating for students throughout their educational journey.

• Ensure at least one recorded two-way communication with each student every mentoring week, making contact through various methods until successful.

• Log all interactions in the Genius student information system in real-time and keep an accurate weekly roster/activity log for students.

• Track student academic progress, assist students in staying on schedule to finish courses punctually, and refer them to tutoring or technical assistance as required.

• Maintain regular communication with the parents/guardians of students under 18, offering consistent academic updates and establishing clear expectations.

• Collaborate with students to set both short-term and long-term goals that promote educational growth, accountability, and independence.

• Facilitate a weekly Power Hour—an open hour for students that may feature project-based learning, interactive virtual games, book clubs, relationship-building activities, or social-emotional check-ins.

• Participate in an MVA Meetup on any day you are scheduled to work and complete a daily End of Day (EOD) report.

• Conduct EDP reviews via Zoom with students and their parents, advising on credits, graduation criteria, and post-secondary/career aspirations while documenting outcomes in Genius.

• Ensure 100% mentor contact during count months (75% during non-count months), document written communications, and review and e-sign all mentor logs submitted by Pupil Accounting.

• Inform students about state testing dates, school events, and important deadlines.

• Attend weekly team meetings, individual sessions with your team leader, and bi-monthly MVA All-Staff and High School All-Staff meetings.

• Complete monthly reflections on professional development and maintain tracking of professional growth.

• Adhere to all MVA High School policies and procedures, including Zoom protocols, EDP reviews, student and Genius documentation, withdrawal processes, and graduation guidelines.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education or a related discipline.

• A valid teaching certification from Michigan is mandatory.

• If certified out of state, obtaining Michigan certification within two months of hire is necessary.

• Prior experience in virtual education, student mentorship, advising, or student support is preferred.
