
Hospital Outpatient Coding Educator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develops and oversees all corporate coding education, training policies, procedures, and reference materials.
• Facilitates training sessions and evaluates coder understanding of the materials presented.
• Provides recommendations for the creation of coding resources and the development of policies and procedures.
• Assists corporate coding leadership in training and creating a performance improvement track for coding staff involved in the corrective action process related to quality or productivity issues.
• Collaborates with Coding Auditors to create educational materials derived from audit findings.
• Establishes and maintains a standardized coding operations orientation program, reporting coders' progress to coding leadership during the orientation and training phases.
• Functions as a nosologist, analyzing and interpreting disease and procedure classifications and terminologies to ensure the accurate translation of healthcare data.
• Applies broad guidelines to specific coding scenarios, exercising discretion and a considerable level of analytical skill.
• Maintains expert-level knowledge of Franciscan Alliance coding software tools.
• Aids in the development and upkeep of software system workflows to promote standardization and maximum efficiency.
• Manages system testing regarding any released software updates or changes in software functionality.
• High School Diploma/GED or Associate's Degree - Required
• 5 years of coding experience within the Franciscan system - Required
• Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
• Experience in Surgery Coding - Required
• 5 years of outpatient coding experience with CCS, CCS-P, CPC - Required
• 5 years of outpatient coding experience with RHIT/RHIA - Required
• 3 years of experience as a Coding Manager or Trainer/Auditor - Preferred
• CCS, Certified Coding Specialist from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required
• CPC, Certified Professional Coder from American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) - Required
• CCS-P, Certified Coding Specialist - Physician from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required
• RHIT, Registered Health Information Technician from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Preferred
• RHIA, Registered Health Information Administrator from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Preferred
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint - Required
