This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Accountable for acquiring precise and comprehensive documentation in the medical records to ensure correct coding assignments.
• Evaluates and accurately interprets medical record documentation from all hospital accounts to identify all diagnoses and procedures impacting the current outpatient encounter, assigning the appropriate ICD-10, CPT, or modifier codes for each identified diagnosis and procedure.
• Codes patient classes of moderate complexity.
• Assigns hospital codes to various patient classes (e.g., ED, OBS, SDC, etc.).
• Ensures daily quality and timely coding, charging, and abstraction of accounts for designated specialty areas.
• Maintains and improves current coding knowledge through quality reviews, participation in clinical in-services and coding seminars, attendance at internal meetings, studying circulating reference materials, and integrating updates to coding manuals.
• Ensures the accuracy, quality, and prompt review of data necessary for obtaining a clean bill.
• Communicates with physicians or relevant individuals to gather information required for accurate coding assignments, and collaborates with other offices as needed to facilitate the billing process.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Current HIM or Coding Certification from ONE of the following: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• A minimum of two (2) years of hospital coding experience.
• Graduate of a Health Information Technology (HIT) or equivalent program OR Medical Coding Certification Program.
• Ability to prioritize job responsibilities effectively.
• Visual and hearing acuity must be within normal ranges.
• Manual dexterity required to operate computer and office equipment.
• Standard office environment.
• May experience visual strain when viewing computer screens, spreadsheets, and other written materials.
• Travel may be required.
