This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Analyze and assess documentation requirements based on the services rendered and coding inquiries.
• Categorize clinical documentation related to tests, treatments, procedures, and various services.
• Assign, modify, and monitor medical record deficiencies within the chart management system.
• Review, upload, and manage Health Maintenance results and Advance Care Planning Directives in Epic.
• Examine clinical documentation for signs of Diabetic Retinopathy and abstract components for Health Maintenance initiatives.
• Execute HIM and coding support functions while contributing to metrics, KPIs, and turnaround times.
• Acquire and import documentation from both internal and external sources to ensure precise coding and billing.
• Identify and escalate front-end or system workflow challenges.
• Collaborate with department leaders, clinical informatics, IT, coding, and HIM Optimization to address issues.
• Validate deficiencies and chart completion status within the EHR.
• Notify clinicians regarding incomplete documentation and inform leadership about accountability measures.
• Verify presurgical History and Physicals (H&Ps) and other documents through OnBase workflows and upload them to the EHR.
• Integrate clinical documentation from electronic and paper sources into EHR workflows.
• Coordinate support activities and deliver Epic training and education to Epic Connect clinics.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Generally requires 1 to 2 years of experience in the healthcare sector.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and nomenclature.
• Capability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision using critical thinking skills.
• Strong problem identification, problem-solving, and priority-setting abilities.
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills.
• Ability to learn Epic, OnBase, Solarity, Microsoft Office, legacy archives, Teams, and other electronic platforms.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Capacity to prioritize workload and operate effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to adjust to task switching while maintaining quality and accuracy.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to safeguard protected health information and have a foundational understanding of HIPAA.
• Proficient in operating required equipment and performing repetitive hand movements.
