This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Code inpatient records, accurately capturing all diagnoses, POA indicators, and procedures, while validating key UHDDS elements.
• Abstract relevant information from patient records to accurately represent the patient’s encounter.
• Review CDI concurrent review notes and collaborate with the CDI Team to ensure optimal code capture.
• Ensure maximum reimbursement in accordance with CMS policies and procedures as well as Official Coding Guidelines.
• Implement the AHS physician query process when code assignments are unclear or when documentation is inadequate or ambiguous.
• Complete coding for all discharges and encounters while adhering to the minimum productivity requirement of 10 per day and maintaining a 95% accuracy rating.
• Code assignments will include inpatient acute care, inpatient psychiatric care, inpatient hospice, and newborn cases.
• Continuously monitor the Coding Priority Work Queue throughout the day and resolve cases daily.
• Ensure that no cases remain on any Work Queues for more than 3 days.
• Stay updated on coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with the assigned Lead to address coding questions and engage in coder feedback sessions and coding meetings.
• Report identified concerns to leadership.
• Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding established by the American Health Information Management Association.
• Perform additional duties as assigned or as necessary.
• High school diploma or GED.
• CCS—Certification as a Coding Specialist from AHIMA.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRGs.
• Understanding of anatomy and physiology, disease processes, and pathology.
• 2–5 years of coding experience with ICD-10 and DRGs.
• Experience with EPIC and CAC is advantageous.
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
