HIL Test Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and uphold scalable automated testing frameworks and scripts for power, control, and SCADA systems utilizing Python.

• Shift validation processes from manual methods to a completely automated, scalable framework.

• Establish and implement thorough Verification and Validation plans for site controllers and SCADA systems under both normal and fault conditions.

• Incorporate automated HIL/SIL testing into CI/CD pipelines and deliver real-time feedback to development teams.

• Act as the final checkpoint for production-ready code.

• Examine technical specifications and create comprehensive automated test suites.

• Monitor gaps in system requirements.

• Run automated test suites across SIL, MIL, and HIL environments.

• Review test captures, pinpoint system failures, and produce detailed engineering reports.

• Collaborate with controls and systems teams to troubleshoot intricate validation failures.

• Utilize logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and telemetry logs for root cause analysis.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• Over 2 years of professional experience in software validation or test automation for hardware-centric systems.

• Advanced proficiency in Python and Bash scripting.

• Practical reading ability in PLC/RTAC/IEC 61131-3 control logic.

• Direct experience in architecting or significantly enhancing Python-based test frameworks such as Pytest or OpenHTF.

• Proven track record of identifying critical edge cases in complex state machines and control loops.

• Familiarity with Git, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, and Docker.

• Preferred knowledge of NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO, and utility interconnection standards.

• Experience with utility-scale solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), hybrid renewable energy plants, or inverter-based resources (IBR) is preferred.

• Advanced user-level skills with Git and contemporary branch management strategies.

• Understanding of communication protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, and DNP3.
