This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• The High School Counselor facilitates student achievement by delivering preventive services and addressing identified needs through a comprehensive school counseling program that aids all learners in their academic accomplishments, social and emotional growth, and career and college preparation.
• Assists all students in:
• o Planning for postsecondary pathways (enrolling in education, enlisting in the military, or entering the workforce)
• o Applying strategies for academic success
• o Managing emotions and utilizing interpersonal skills
• Concentrates on college and career readiness for students and families;
• Conducts quarterly meetings with all students on their caseload to evaluate graduation plans and post-secondary options;
• Provides classroom instruction aligned with student success standards;
• Reviews academic transcripts and documentation for both new and returning students;
• Collaborates with teaching staff to create a four (4) year graduation plan and reviews student schedules to ensure compliance with graduation requirements as set by school and state policies;
• Assists students in course selection, including recommendations for Advanced Placement (AP) and opportunities that challenge and enrich their learning experiences;
• Analyzes student data to develop data-driven intervention action plans;
• Offers short-term counseling to students and makes referrals for long-term support when necessary;
• Establishes a support system that bolsters the efforts of teachers, staff, and parents;
• Supports standardized testing programs, parent education, and staff development;
• May represent students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused gatherings;
• Guides students and families in goal setting and academic planning for college and career readiness;
• Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time for in-person professional development, student testing, and other school-related requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree AND
• Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement
• Valid School Counselor License
• Must pass the required background check
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, web-based search engines, and database systems
• Flexible scheduling; ability to travel as needed
• Experience with distance learning methodologies
• Advanced coursework in counseling and administration
• Background as a teacher
• Experience in a customer service setting
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws and mandated reporting
• Preference for experience in a charter school environment
• Knowledge of state career planning systems, Pathfinder, or other career planning tools/platforms
