Helicopter Pilot

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Accountable for ensuring that aircraft and weather conditions are safe for transporting medical crews and patients to the designated hospital within a specified operational area.

• Tasked with adhering to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), and the guidelines outlined in the General Operations Manual (GOM), while possessing an in-depth understanding of Air Methods policies and procedures.

• Operates Air Methods aircraft in a secure and lawful manner.

• Conducts pre-flight checks before each flight to confirm that the aircraft is in an airworthy state, as documented in the Daily Flight Log. Pilots are required to perform a comprehensive walk-around inspection of the aircraft before entering the cockpit for flight and after each flight concludes.

• Holds the ultimate authority regarding the operation of the aircraft and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.

• Must be well-acquainted with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized in the operational area and ensure that the medical flight team is knowledgeable and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.

• Responsible for completing all necessary documentation.

• Capable of executing detailed flight planning on short notice to precise standards.

• Regularly participates in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach initiatives.

• Performs additional duties as assigned.

• Expected to maintain a regular attendance schedule of 7 days on/7 days off (12-hour shifts). Regular attendance is considered an essential function of the position, subject to applicable laws and Air Methods policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with two to five years of related experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• Bachelor's degree is preferred.

• As a member of the Flight Crew, candidates must maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds and must be under seventy (70) years of age.

• Pilots must have operated in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the last 24 months.

• Must maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, while striving to foster a friendly and professional working atmosphere.

• A minimum of 2,000 total flight hours, with at least 1,500 flight hours in category.

• 1,000 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time in category.

• 500 hours of rotor wing turbine flight time.

• 200 hours of cross-country flight time, including at least 50 hours flown at night.

• 100 hours of unaided night flight time as PIC (50 hours of unaided night time can be replaced by 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided flight time).

• 50 hours of total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time does not qualify).

• Commercial & Instrument Rating for the category and class of aircraft is required.

• ATP rating in category satisfies this requirement.

• A First OR Second Class FAA Medical certificate is mandatory.
