This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Accountable for ensuring that aircraft and weather conditions meet airworthiness standards to safely transport medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within a designated operational area.
• Ensures adherence to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and possesses a thorough understanding of Air Methods policies and procedures.
• Operates Air Methods aircraft in a secure and lawful manner.
• Conducts pre-flight checks prior to every flight, confirming the aircraft's airworthy condition by signing off on the Daily Flight Log. Pilots are required to perform a comprehensive walk-around inspection of the aircraft before entering the cockpit for flight and upon the completion of each flight.
• Holds final authority concerning aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
• Must be thoroughly acquainted with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized in the operational area, ensuring that the medical flight team is familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
• Responsible for the completion of necessary documentation.
• Capable of conducting detailed flight planning with minimal notice to exacting standards.
• Actively participates in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach initiatives.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with two to five years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the last 24 months.
• Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, striving to foster a friendly and professional working environment.
• Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program - Minimum Required Flight Times: 2000 total flight hours, including at least 1500 flight hours in category, 1000 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) in category, 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time, 200 hours of cross-country flight time (at least 50 hours of which must be at night), 100 hours of unaided night as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted by 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided time), and 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time is not counted) (for a rotor wing candidate who is fixed wing rated, 100 hours or more of fixed wing actual or hood instrument time can reduce the rotor wing required instrument time to 25 hours).
