This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Function as both a technical expert and strategic leader, facilitating a growing array of intricate over-water projects while contributing to the development and expansion of a global health and safety function.
• Serve as the primary safety authority for over-water operations while advancing the creation of global health and safety systems, programs, and culture.
• Design, implement, and manage comprehensive Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs/JHAs), and emergency response protocols tailored to over-water and marine-based activities.
• Ensure the safe execution of field programs that include: Marine and overwater sampling initiatives, Vibracore and sediment coring operations, Collection of sediment, surface water, and tissue samples, Bathymetric surveys and related marine geophysical activities.
• Oversee over-water emergency preparedness, encompassing man-overboard response strategies, readiness of rescue equipment, and conducting drills.
• Propel the development and execution of a global health and safety strategy, systems, and framework that is applicable across offices, remote teams, and field operations.
• Provide guidance to leadership on emerging risks, regulatory modifications, and best practices in both general and marine-specific safety.
• Create and deliver training programs for employees, contractors, and leadership, focusing on over-water safety practices. Ensure adherence to training requirements and maintain documentation standards. Foster a robust, behavior-based safety culture throughout all organizational levels.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive health and safety experience, including leadership roles in complex, multi-site or global contexts.
• Proven expertise in developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) for intricate over-water and marine field operations.
• Direct experience in supporting and managing safety for: Marine and overwater sampling initiatives, Vibracore and sediment coring operations, Collection of sediment, surface water, and tissue samples, Bathymetric surveys and marine geophysical activities.
• Strong background in managing high-risk over-water hazards, including drowning risks, vessel interactions, currents, weather exposure, and unstable work surfaces.
• Established capability to function as the lead safety authority on complex field projects, including oversight of subcontractors and marine crews.
• Experience in coordinating vessel safety, marine contractors, and offshore or nearshore operations (relevant offshore oil & gas experience is highly valuable).
• Solid understanding of hazard identification, task-specific risk assessments, and the integration of safety into field execution processes.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership abilities with the capacity to influence teams and enforce safety standards.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. First Aid / CPR / AED certification is required. Preferred Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Marine or small-vessel safety training or certification, Over-water rescue or emergency response training.
