Health Record Technician, Coding/Abstracting – Health Information Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Coding and abstracting for the National Ambulatory Care Reporting Systems (NACRS) and Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) in accordance with CIHI coding standards and ICD-10 CA/CCI guidelines.

• Seek clarification on unclear clinical information to support precise data collection.

• Employ abstracting and report generation to guarantee data submission and distribution to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Work collaboratively with the Registration, Decision Support, and Finance teams to improve decision-making quality and ensure accurate funding based on clinical data.

• Engage in projects aimed at enhancing data quality.

• Commit to personal development and ongoing learning to refine your skills and broaden your expertise as a health information management professional.

• Perform additional job functions as needed to assist the Health Information Management team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Graduate from a recognized health record information management program.

• Active membership with CHIMA.

• At least five years of experience coding with DAD and NACRS using ICD-10/CCI, along with current knowledge of CIHI coding standards.

• Experience with computerized abstracting; familiarity with WINRECS is preferred.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, CIHI coding queries, Meditech, EPIC, and eHIM.

• Must possess an understanding of CMG (Complexity).

• Ability to implement data quality practices and standards in coding and abstracting tasks.

• Exceptional organizational, data interpretation, communication, and critical thinking skills are essential.

• Consistent attendance, punctuality, and a strong work record are required.

• Must be willing and able to work from home, as per hospital criteria, after successfully completing the probationary period if requested by the hospital.
