Head of Technology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Lead the technology division by providing strategic direction, making architectural choices, and managing vendor relationships.

• Stay actively involved by developing, troubleshooting, resolving issues, and delivering results alongside a streamlined technology team.

• Take ownership of the Blaze custom .NET/SQL CRM architecture, ensuring its stability, enhancements, and long-term vision.

• Manage performance, uptime, infrastructure, and security across 20+ WordPress sites hosted on cloud servers.

• Spearhead AI and automation initiatives that involve AI agents, data extraction, web crawling, and workflow automation.

• Supervise the rates extraction and quoting platform supported by PostgreSQL.

• Set and implement technology standards across Node.js, PHP, Python, PostgreSQL, Cloudflare, Caddy, systemd, and related technologies.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the technology team while identifying future hiring needs.

• Convert business requirements into effective technology solutions and ensure systems can scale with the company's growth.

• Provide guidance to the CEO regarding platform initiatives, production challenges, and technology investments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering or systems architecture, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.

• Strong practical full-stack or backend development skills in PHP, Python, Node.js, or similar technologies.

• Demonstrated experience managing Linux servers and cloud infrastructure, such as DigitalOcean or Linode.

• In-depth database expertise, specifically with PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server.

• Proven ability to lead small, high-performing engineering teams.

• Capacity to think strategically while remaining technically engaged.

• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

• Comfortable collaborating directly with the CEO; a structured thinker with a business-oriented mindset and strong communication skills.

• Experience with AI/LLM integration, AI agents, automation, or data pipelines is a significant plus.

• Familiarity with WordPress or headless CMS environments at scale is highly advantageous.

• Experience with .NET or Windows Server, particularly in the context of the Blaze CRM environment, is a strong advantage.

• Background in booking engines, travel technology, hospitality, or transaction-heavy platforms is a strong asset.

• Proven experience in taking technology products or platforms from development to production is a significant advantage.
