Head of Risk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Spearhead Step’s Risk strategy, ensuring a balance between robust fraud prevention and a seamless user experience.

• Collaborate across departments including Data Science, Product, Engineering, and Compliance to integrate risk-aware decision-making into the product development lifecycle.

• Take ownership of fraud loss metrics alongside Finance, weighing revenue growth against risk-related expenses and operational costs.

• Expand the Risk organization to support rapid growth by emphasizing automated, technology-driven solutions.

• Continuously enhance risk prediction models to reduce false positives and improve accuracy.

• Foster a customer-focused risk culture that prioritizes user trust and retention.

• Report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of impactful risk leadership experience.

• Preferred strong background in risk analytics and/or data science.

• Demonstrated analytical leadership, utilizing data to tackle complex challenges and achieve strategic business objectives.

• Significant experience in Fintech or Banking, managing high-risk consumer technology settings and payment platforms.

• Proven track record of mitigating transactional fraud with accountability for fraud losses.

• Expertise in developing strategies to defend against first-party and friendly fraud.

• Experience working alongside Product teams to create smooth customer experiences without sacrificing security.

• Outcome-focused mentality with a commitment to customer advocacy.

• Mastery in cross-functional influence, consensus-building, and stakeholder alignment.

• Extensive experience in building and mentoring cross-disciplinary teams across Risk Operations, Analytics, Disputes, and Investigations.

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
