Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Build strong collaborative relationships with the engineering team and technical leads to cultivate a culture of psychological safety and high performance.

• Assist the team in promoting ownership of outcomes. Facilitate the shift from functional (Frontend/Backend) to comprehensive end-to-end ownership.

• Collaborate with the team to pinpoint friction points and bottlenecks to create a value-driven delivery process that enhances predictability and velocity.

• Begin executing a roadmap that harmonizes the strategic transformation of our engineering (e.g. addressing technical debt, agent readiness, and upskilling) with product innovation objectives.

• Steer the progression of the collaboration model from functional roles toward cross-functional efficiency. Bridge the gaps between Product and Engineering, minimize dependencies, and empower the team to deliver end-to-end value.

• Take ownership and co-create the technical vision and roadmap with your Tech Leads, balancing the reduction of "tech debt" with feature delivery.

• Lead the implementation of AI-native development practices, tools, and automation to enhance team leverage and engineering efficiency.

• Serve as a high-level sparring partner to the CEO and Product leadership, navigating the trade-offs between technical sustainability and delivery speed.

• Direct the technical strategy for a data-intensive platform, focusing on security, data privacy (including audits and GDPR), performance, and seamless migrations while working in collaboration with the saas.group Central Platform team.

• Mentor and empower an international engineering team to fully embrace ownership and nurture confidence in autonomous decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams within a high-scale production environment, emphasizing efficient team structures and operational excellence.

• You possess strong technical credibility across modern technology stacks (preferably PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, and cloud infrastructure) and are comfortable discussing architecture with senior engineers.

• You prioritize engineering initiatives based on customer value and business impact rather than technical elegance alone.

• You excel at building alignment during periods of transition, guiding teams through change and overcoming resistance to a new rhythm and pace.

• Your success is measured by what your team (including yourself) delivers, not just by your personal contributions.

• A progressive mindset towards leveraging LLMs and AI agents as essential tools for both product features and internal productivity.

• Familiarity with SEO-related web technologies (such as websites, crawling, indexing, and content analysis) is a significant advantage.

• Proficiency in English is essential; knowledge of German is a strong plus due to the brand's origins.
