Head of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership and architecture, serving as the cornerstone of the role. You will uphold the technical standards across web, backend, data, mobile, cloud, infrastructure, and security. You will make critical architecture decisions, lead reviews, and design the foundational elements of new projects.

• Develop the engineering organization, culture, and talent. You will enhance our engineering team in a contemporary manner: promoting a horizontal structure, fostering high trust, and focusing on outcomes rather than layering with management. You will establish hiring standards, define leveling criteria for builders, and influence the culture, incentives, and processes that inspire exceptional engineering performance.

• Treat AI harness engineering as an essential discipline. You will regard the harness as genuine engineering: including scaffolding, tools, context, memory, evaluations, and guardrails that surround a model to render it production-ready. You will determine where AI accelerates our progress and where it may compromise quality, coaching the team to achieve that standard (focusing on the harness, not merely the prompts).

• Participate in delivery and the strike team. When a new project requires top-tier talent to stabilize or establish the correct foundation, you will join the strike team. You will engage hands-on with prototypes, early product builds, architecture, and the challenging first 20%, before transitioning to the squad that will carry it forward.

• Engage with partners and commercial partnerships (expanding with the role). You will collaborate directly with founders and C-level executives, possessing the capability to represent Katapult at the highest levels. When technical expertise is necessary to secure or shape the right projects, you will engage in the sales process.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in building production software, with several years in leadership roles focused on growing engineering teams.

• Exceptional proficiency in English. All collaborations will occur in English.

• Extensive architectural experience encompassing cloud services (AWS / GCP), infrastructure, microservices, event-driven systems, and API design (REST / gRPC).

• Strong full-stack knowledge: modern web technologies (React, Next.js, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS) alongside backend technologies (Node, Python, Go, or similar).

• Practical experience with AI coding tools and agent harnesses (such as Claude Code, Codex CLI). Understanding of the scaffolding surrounding models, not just prompts.

• Solid foundation in data and analytics, including pipelines and data-driven products (experience with ML / AI is a significant advantage).

• Security considerations integrated into your architecture and review process, rather than applied as an afterthought.

• Familiarity with mobile delivery methods.

• Genuine taste in frontend design and product sensibility.

• Proven track record in scaling systems and enhancing reliability and quality at a significant volume.

• Experience collaborating remotely with US-based startups and founders, demonstrating high autonomy and execution strength.
