Head of Embodied AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the first dedicated hire for Stord’s Embodied AI initiative, reporting directly to the CTO and Co-Founder.

• Take full responsibility for the early Embodied AI business, encompassing product development, customer relations, data capture programs, data operations, team management, and P&L oversight.

• Spearhead customer discovery efforts and secure initial pilots with companies in humanoid robotics, AI laboratories, and physical AI sectors.

• Collaborate with VPs of AI, Heads of Data, and technical leaders to comprehend training needs and convert them into viable products.

• Define and develop the data product roadmap across quality tiers, incorporating RGB egocentric video, depth-enhanced datasets, and multimodal datasets that include hand pose, annotations, and metadata.

• Prioritize product development initiatives based on customer demand and their willingness to pay, while upholding stringent data quality standards.

• Establish and manage a warehouse-based data capture program, which includes selecting cameras and rigs, enrolling participants, edge processing, data pipelines, and packaging datasets.

• Coordinate warehouse operations, engineering teams, and customers to ensure datasets are delivered according to specifications and timelines.

• Recruit and lead a small senior team and expand it as the business progresses.

• Set the technical direction and quality benchmarks, make architectural and tradeoff decisions, and ensure appropriate systems are developed.

• Ultimately oversee the P&L for the Embodied AI business.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building or managing a data operation or data product within the robotics, AI, or a similar technical domain.

• Comprehensive understanding of the entire data lifecycle, from establishing collection requirements and deploying capture hardware to annotation, quality assurance, and delivering production-ready datasets to ML teams.

• Sufficient technical expertise to lead engineers and make informed architectural decisions.

• Ability to assess pipeline designs and gain an understanding of computer vision and ML data formats.

• Capacity to communicate effectively with both engineers and customers.

• Experience in selling data products to robotics or AI firms, or having been an ML customer procuring data.

• Proven capability to lead discovery sessions, translate customer needs into product specifications, and manage opportunities from initial conversation through pilot execution and closure.

• Comfort working across strategy and execution in areas such as product development, commercial activities, operations, and engineering.

• In-depth knowledge of the physical AI landscape, including humanoid robotics companies, AI laboratories, and the real-world data requirements for training vision-language-action models and deploying robots.

• Familiarity with egocentric demonstration data as a critical bottleneck for scaling embodied intelligence.

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
