Head of Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee and lead a department consisting of 15–20 developers across four teams, mentoring team leads while cultivating a high-performance and agile startup culture.

• Drive the technical roadmap by managing the Node.js pilot initiative and spearheading platform re-architecture.

• Coordinate development projects and eliminate administrative hurdles to enhance focus and workflow.

• Champion the AI-first development journey by integrating AI tools into workflows and coaching teams to uncover efficiencies.

• Take ownership of department output, ensuring the timely delivery of the product roadmap along with maintaining code quality, stability, security, and performance prior to production.

• Address urgent technical challenges and critical deployments, bringing teams together and effectively communicating resolutions across the organization.

• Report directly to the Head of Technology.

• Lead a group of 15–20 developers through five direct-report lead developers.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in a senior leadership position, such as Head of Development, Engineering Manager, or a comparable role.

• Demonstrated success in managing 15–20+ developers and QA engineers, either directly or indirectly.

• Extensive hands-on experience with PHP/Laravel to guide our foundation, alongside Node.js/TypeScript to lead our evolution.

• Prior participation in a successful platform transition, whether involving a language change, framework migration, or a shift to modular architecture.

• Strong capability to maintain business continuity during significant technical transitions.

• Profound understanding of AI-driven workflows and experience in mentoring teams to incorporate these tools throughout the development process.

• Expert-level ability to manage the logistics of software delivery, including identifying project dependencies, removing administrative barriers, and safeguarding developer flow.

• Outstanding communication skills, with the capacity to drive change, mentor seasoned developers through technical transitions, and manage stakeholder expectations with clarity and directness.

• Must be based in the UK and eligible for full-time work.
