This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Establish the design function for a rapidly expanding multi-product HealthTech platform.
• Lead a design team that currently includes three designers, with plans for expansion as product teams grow.
• Recruit, organize, and develop the team, determining how design resources are allocated across product divisions.
• Oversee the design system throughout the platform, which includes visual language, interaction patterns, component libraries, and Figma infrastructure.
• Set the quality standards for design across the organization and help guarantee that products are delivered to a consistently high standard.
• Shape the collaboration between design, product, and engineering as the organization expands, including establishing review rituals and handoff workflows.
• 8–10 years of experience in design, including a minimum of 3–4 years in leadership roles.
• A progression from individual contributor roles in design to positions of design leadership.
• Proximity to the craft, capable of using Figma for hands-on work, while also experienced enough to lead and nurture a team.
• Experience in building design within a multi-product organization, rather than solely on a single product.
• Proven ability to create coherence across products that serve diverse surfaces and user types.
• Strong background in design systems, including the construction or substantial evolution of a system that operates across various platforms.
• A solid understanding of the balance between consistency and flexibility within design.
• A belief that a design system should be viewed as a product, not merely a style guide.
• Strong product sensibility and a high standard for simple, thoughtful, and high-quality experiences in B2B software.
• An understanding of how AI influences both the design process and the products being created.
• A thoughtful perspective on, and ideally experience with, designing for non-deterministic AI-powered products.
• Capability to scale a design team over time, encompassing hiring, organizing designers across product teams, and deciding when to engage contractors.
• Strong mentoring and development capabilities for designers at various levels.
• Comfort working in regulated sectors such as healthcare, fintech, or similar industries.
• Recognition that compliance and accessibility are essential, not optional.
• Experience in a startup or scale-up environment, with the ability to make decisive choices quickly in a resource-limited context.
• Proficiency in English as a working language; knowledge of German is advantageous but not mandatory.
