Head of Applied Machine Learning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Product, Marketing, Operations, and other departments to pinpoint opportunities where machine learning can deliver measurable value.

• Convert business challenges into modeling goals, metrics, and experimental plans.

• Oversee the design, development, and refinement of ranking, filtering, and personalization models.

• Take ownership of modeling strategies, feature planning, evaluation metrics, and both offline and online experimentation.

• Utilize large language models (LLMs) and hybrid machine learning techniques for semantic comprehension, intent recognition, content creation, and internal processes.

• Assess new tools and suggest practical implementation.

• Create best practices for the testing, deployment, and monitoring of LLM-driven models in production environments.

• Mentor and manage applied machine learning practitioners.

• Establish benchmarks for modeling thoroughness, experimental rigor, and readiness for production.

• Work alongside ML engineering and platform teams for scalable and reliable deployment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Over 6 years of experience in building and deploying machine learning models in production.

• Proven experience in managing ranking, recommendation, or personalization systems.

• Familiarity with learning-to-rank techniques, embeddings, gradient boosting, and neural networks.

• Practical experience with LLMs, including prompt design, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, and evaluation methods.

• Strong software engineering capabilities and experience with contemporary data and machine learning technologies.

• Ability to collaborate across functions and influence without a direct authority.

• Advanced degree is preferred.
