Head of Accounting, Tax

Posted 1 day ago

📋 Description

• Responsible for statutory accounting and group consolidation within n8n’s global entity framework.

• Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, enhancing cycle efficiency and establishing scalable closing procedures.

• Manage external audits — cultivating relationships and ensuring audit preparedness throughout the year.

• Ensure tax compliance and coordination across various jurisdictions, collaborating with and challenging external advisors on transfer pricing, VAT, and corporate tax matters.

• Take ownership of ERP systems and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

• Build and lead a small, high-caliber accounting team.

• Define and develop what an AI-native accounting function entails at n8n, then implement it.

⛳️ Requirements

• This position is for the head of accounting. Your primary expertise lies in statutory accounting, financial reporting, and audit functions.

• Experience in navigating a scaling trajectory.

• You have participated in a finance function during a phase of rapid growth — ideally from Series B to IPO readiness — and have insights into potential pitfalls at each stage of that journey.

• Must be a qualified accountant.

• Possess ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent credentials. Proficiency in HGB alongside IFRS or US GAAP is a significant advantage, especially considering our German entity structure.

• International multi-entity experience is necessary.

• You have overseen statutory reporting across several legal entities and jurisdictions.

• Tax literacy is essential, but you do not need to be a tax expert.

• Demonstrated fluency in AI applications — practical experience is required, theoretical knowledge is not sufficient.

• Team leadership experience is crucial.

• You have built or managed an accounting team—not just supervised; you have recruited, developed, and led individuals, showcasing a clear trajectory of career advancement.

• Strong Signals (Nice-to-Have):

• Experience in pre-IPO, IPO readiness, or private equity-backed environments.

• Background with a Big 4 firm before transitioning in-house — alumni from EY, Deloitte, PwC, or KPMG in tech are frequently suited for this role.

• Experience with ERP implementation or significant system overhauls.

• Involvement in month-end close transformation.

• Knowledge of SOX compliance or audit control environment design.

• Genuine curiosity about products.
