This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Collaborate with Chief Medical Officers, clinical leaders, product teams, and stakeholders across Hearst Health businesses to pinpoint inquiries regarding clinical impact.
• Convert business and clinical inquiries into testable hypotheses, measurable outcomes, and research designs.
• Create observational, quasi-experimental, or other analytical strategies to evaluate clinical outcomes after the adoption or utilization of Hearst Health solutions.
• Determine endpoints, comparison populations, timeframes, covariates, and potential confounding variables.
• Evaluate data strengths and weaknesses and suggest pragmatic study designs.
• Analyze clinical, operational, utilization, and other healthcare data.
• Utilize statistical and epidemiological methods to differentiate effects from correlation, selection effects, and bias.
• Perform sensitivity analyses and validation work.
• Document methodology, assumptions, limitations, and results thoroughly.
• Describe negative or inconclusive findings and propose subsequent investigations.
• Transform analytical results into conclusions for clinical and business audiences.
• Create charts, exhibits, research summaries, and other materials as needed.
• Collaborate with marketing, sales, product, and clinical teams to develop evidence-based customer communications.
• Assist in establishing a repeatable framework for measuring clinical impact.
• Identify opportunities for deeper research, customer-specific studies, conference submissions, white papers, or peer-reviewed research.
• Keep abreast of academic literature and emerging methodologies in digital health, clinical decision support, healthcare software, and data products.
• Currently enrolled in an advanced degree program such as an MPH, MS, DrPH, PhD, or a comparable graduate degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, health informatics, outcomes research, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Solid foundation in research methodology, epidemiology, biostatistics, or causal inference.
• Experience in designing and executing quantitative analyses utilizing healthcare, clinical, claims, EHR, or other complex real-world datasets.
• Proficient in at least one statistical or analytical programming environment.
• Capability to transition from an open-ended clinical question to a structured research plan and analytical method.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical findings to non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and comfort in collaborating across clinical, analytical, product, and commercial domains.
• Preferred: experience with observational or quasi-experimental methods, healthcare quality metrics, clinical outcomes, utilization measures, healthcare economics, healthcare datasets, prior research output, and an interest in healthcare technology.
