This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete product lifecycle for the entire Brecknell Scales portfolio — from the discovery of new products and market validation to launch, growth, maturity, and planning for obsolescence/end-of-life.

• Perform regular health assessments of products and market analysis across key sectors (medical, veterinary, food service, postal, etc.) to uncover gaps, identify growth opportunities, and determine unmet product needs.

• Convert insights from customers, sales, and the market into precise product requirements, prioritized feature requests, and a comprehensive multi-year global product roadmap.

• Serve as the primary advocate for customer and global market perspectives, ensuring that Brecknell products are easy to set up and use straight “out of the box,” while minimizing the need for technical support.

• Establish and uphold product positioning, value propositions, and go-to-market strategies, focusing on globalization (harmonized SKUs across the USA, UK, and the rest of the world whenever feasible).

• Spearhead New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, aiming for a quicker time-to-market (preferably 5–6 months), covering pricing strategy, launch planning, sales enablement, training materials, brochures, manuals, datasheets, and website updates.

• Oversee supplier relationships with critical partners in China, which includes price negotiations, quality enhancements, lead time management, new product development, and proactively identifying next-generation suppliers to sustain cost-effectiveness and quality.

• Track and resolve issues related to obsolescence, component shortages, inventory/SMI/stockout challenges, and quality holds in collaboration with purchasing, quality, and regional teams.

• Ensure complete regulatory compliance across regions (NTEP, OIML, NSF, FDA registration/listing, UPC-A/EAN-13 barcodes, safe battery shipping certificates, etc.) and manage related annual fees and renewals.

• Evaluate product performance metrics (sales, margin, adoption, returns, warranty data, customer feedback) and perform competitive analysis to drive improvements, portfolio rationalization, and margin protection on unique/owned products (e.g., Electrosamson, 6700U, ZP and Salter products).

• Collaborate with marketing to keep all product documentation, images, quick-start guides (including French and Spanish), and sales tools current.

• Interpret technical specifications, drawings, and datasheets, translating them into clear, user-friendly language and supporting private labeling/OEM opportunities.

• Initiate product enhancement initiatives to prolong product lifecycle, ensure simplicity and usability while incorporating smart features and benefits.

• Assist with annual pricing reviews, updates to price lists (including Shopify/discontinued lists), and PLS/phase-out decisions.

• Provide technical support to customers and end-users for the UK/Rest of the World (technical support for North America is provided from Fairmont).

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated product management experience, preferably in the weighing/scales industry, or similar technical/consumer hardware products, ideally with exposure to supply chains sourced from China.

• Strong technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and software aspects of scales and indicators, with the ability to comprehend and simplify complex specifications and certification requirements for end users.

• Familiarity with global compliance and certification standards (NTEP, OIML, NSF, FDA, barcode systems) and experience managing supplier lifecycles, quality issues, lead times, and cost challenges.

• Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) at all levels — with customers, distributors, internal teams (USA/UK/China), and senior stakeholders.

• Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making abilities, coupled with practical problem-solving skills for customer applications and business results.

• Self-motivated with outstanding organizational skills; capable of juggling multiple priorities, projects, and ongoing tasks (e.g., manual updates, supplier assessments, pricing).

• Experience or a willingness to engage directly with Chinese suppliers, conduct supplier visits, and lead development projects.

• A results-oriented mindset focused on driving revenue growth while safeguarding margins, minimizing time-to-market, reducing stockouts, and ensuring products remain simple and reliable.

• Knowledge of key Brecknell markets (medical, veterinary, food service, postal, industrial fishing) and distribution channels (retail, catalogs, internet, dealers, OEM) is highly desirable.
