Global Commodity Manager – Custom Parts

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Direct global sourcing initiatives, supplier strategy, cost management, and supply chain development for custom mechanical and electromechanical components.

• Formulate and implement commodity strategies for metals, plastics, displays, custom transformers, magnetics, and associated components.

• Propel supplier consolidation, dual sourcing, risk mitigation, cost reduction, quality enhancement, capacity, lead-time reduction, and supply continuity.

• Identify, assess, qualify, and cultivate global suppliers for complex Build-to-Print manufacturing needs.

• Oversee RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and competitive sourcing efforts.

• Conduct quote evaluations, should-cost modeling, supplier benchmarking, and total-cost-of-ownership assessments.

• Negotiate pricing, payment conditions, rebates, tooling, NRE, MOQ, lead times, inventory programs, and commercial contracts.

• Examine raw material trends, market dynamics, capacity limitations, tariffs, and supply chain vulnerabilities.

• Assist with design-to-cost initiatives, supplier optimization, material substitution, and enhancements to manufacturing processes.

• Act as the commodity subject matter expert in mechanical and electromechanical manufacturing technologies.

• Collaborate with Engineering and suppliers on DFM, manufacturability, material choice, tooling, process optimization, and cost-saving measures.

• Aid in prototype development, NPI, production ramp-up, and engineering change processes.

• Work with Quality teams on supplier performance, corrective actions, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Manage strategic supplier relationships while overseeing quality, delivery, lead time, capacity, cost, responsiveness, and service levels.

• Execute supplier business reviews, factory inspections, capability assessments, and supplier audits.

• Set supplier KPIs and serve as the primary contact for critical supplier issues.

• Formulate supplier capacity strategies that align with current and anticipated demand.

• Collaborate with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Program Management, Finance, and Executive Leadership.

• Present sourcing strategies, supplier proposals, cost-reduction initiatives, capacity risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership.

• Promote global standardization of suppliers, pricing frameworks, specifications, contracts, and payment conditions.

• Lead cross-functional projects focused on enhancing cost, quality, delivery, technology, and supply chain resilience.

• Travel internationally, up to 50%, for supplier visits, business reviews, factory audits, sourcing events, quality escalations, and supplier development activities.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related technical discipline.

• Over 7 years of experience in commodity management, strategic sourcing, supply chain, procurement, or supplier development.

• Extensive experience with custom fabricated parts or EMS-related manufacturing commodities.

• Proven experience in leading RFQ/RFP processes, supplier negotiations, and commercial agreements.

• Strong analytical and cost modeling abilities, including TCO and market analysis.

• Familiarity with fabrication technologies, manufacturing processes, materials, lead times, and supplier capabilities.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and supplier management skills.

• Willingness to travel internationally based on business requirements, up to 50%.

• Capability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

• Proficiency in ERP systems, Excel, and supply chain analytics tools.

• Significant experience in engineering purchasing, contract negotiation, material or production planning, operations or supply chain management, material cost control, master production scheduling, or technical procurement/planning with custom or electrical components.

• U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR and/or CUI compliance.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test is necessary.

• Preferred: Experience in EMS, aerospace, defense, medical, industrial, or high-reliability manufacturing sectors.

• Preferred: Knowledge of supplier qualification methodologies and manufacturing quality standards.

• Preferred: Experience managing global suppliers across the U.S., Mexico, and Asia.

• Preferred: Strong understanding of supply chain risk mitigation and dual sourcing strategies.

• Preferred: Experience in supporting BTP manufacturing operations.

• APICS, CPM, CPSM, or related certifications are preferred.
