Global Business Development Manager

Posted Jun 20

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Lead and drive global revenue expansion for the aseptic and non-aseptic lyophilization portfolio, with direct responsibility for finalizing large, intricate, high-value pharmaceutical and biopharma capital equipment and system solutions.

• Develop and implement the global commercial strategy for lyophilization systems, utilizing an in-depth understanding of lyophilization cycle development, formulation considerations, CIP/SIP systems, and sterility assurance requirements to provide differentiated, value-based solutions.

• Act as a senior commercial and technical expert in non-aseptic and aseptic filling and lyophilization, possessing a solid working knowledge of EU GMP Annex 1, FDA expectations, cleanroom classifications, isolators/RABS, aseptic process simulations, validation strategies, and quality risk management.

• Spearhead the sales of fully integrated system solutions, which include lyophilization, automated loading and unloading, material handling, controls, and supporting architectures—positioning SP as a comprehensive solution partner rather than merely a standalone equipment supplier.

• Utilize practical knowledge of GAMP 5, computerized systems, and validation expectations to facilitate compliant system design discussions, risk mitigation, and bolster customer confidence throughout the sales process.

• Build, validate, and actively manage a strong global pipeline, including ownership of forecasting, financial modeling, and business case development to support precise revenue planning and strategic investment decisions.

• Engage personally with senior customer stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and executive leadership to influence complex purchasing decisions, assist in contract negotiations, and secure strategic, multi-site opportunities.

• Lead and nurture a team of commercial subject matter experts in lyophilization, establishing clear commercial priorities, driving accountability, and ensuring that technical expertise directly supports deal execution and customer success.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, project management, manufacturing, and service teams to develop commercially viable offerings, influence service strategies, and ensure that end-to-end solutions fulfill customer, regulatory, and operational requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical, biopharma, or life science capital equipment or system solutions.

• A proven history of closing large, complex, multi-million dollar pharmaceutical system agreements with biopharma, biotech, diagnostics, or CDMO clients.

• Demonstrated capability in building and converting a global sales pipeline, including direct responsibility for opportunity creation, deal progression, and bookings.

• Working knowledge of EU GMP Annex 1 and its implications for aseptic lyophilization system design, automation, contamination control, and customer requirements.

• Practical understanding of GAMP 5 principles, encompassing computerized systems, controls, data integrity, and validation expectations in regulated environments.

• Experience in selling or supporting fully integrated aseptic system solutions, which include lyophilizers, automated loading/unloading, material handling, and related system architectures.

• Ability to engage confidently with senior customer stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and executive leadership.

• Experience working in a player-coach capacity, merging direct commercial responsibilities with leading technical SMEs or solution specialists.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related technical field.

• Willingness to travel globally 30-50% of the time.
