This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee the global month-end closing activities, ensuring that financial results are delivered on time, accurately, and comprehensively.
• Evaluate and authorize journal entries, supporting calculations, and account reconciliations to uphold data integrity and readiness for audits.
• Supervise accounts payable operations, ensuring prompt processing, accurate coding, and compliance with internal controls and vendor agreements.
• Enhance and sustain global accounting processes and internal controls to foster efficiency, consistency, and risk management.
• Compile and present internal financial reports, including variance analyses and commentary for leadership and finance stakeholders.
• Analyze and reconcile intercompany transactions to ensure precise consolidated reporting.
• Manage and execute the global month-end checklist, guaranteeing that accounting processes are thorough and uniform.
• Act as the administrator for the accounting system, ensuring data integrity, access management, and system enhancements.
• Serve as a primary accounting authority for Certn’s global financial outcomes, ensuring that financial activities are accurately documented and comply with accounting policies and standards.
• Ensure that cash flow reconciliations and analyses are conducted accurately and punctually each month.
• Collaborate closely with the Assistant Controller to verify and clarify regional financial data for consolidation and reporting to leadership.
• Actively seek out and resolve accounting challenges, discrepancies, or risks.
• Adhere to IFRS, regional GAAP, and internal accounting policy standards across global operations.
• Assist with external audits by managing reconciliations, preparing necessary documentation, and addressing audit-related inquiries.
• Provide valuable insights into global financial performance by linking operational activities to financial results.
• Suggest and implement enhancements that boost accuracy, control, and scalability within accounting practices.
• Lead and nurture a high-performing global accounting team, offering daily guidance and technical support.
• Establish clear team objectives and expectations that align with Finance and company goals.
• Offer coaching, constructive feedback, and assistance for performance management and career advancement.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-focused team culture.
• Encourage continuous improvement and knowledge sharing throughout the team.
• Work alongside Finance and FP&A teams to assist in budgeting, forecasting, and planning through timely and accurate reporting of actuals.
• Contribute to the creation of scalable financial policies and accounting processes that facilitate Certn’s expansion.
• Provide data-driven insights and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, lower costs, and improve decision-making quality.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the financial implications of business activities are accurately documented.
• Aid in the preparation for board reporting, investor communications, and strategic finance initiatives by supplying reliable financial information.
• Ensure timely submission of GST, PST, Employer Health Tax, and other statutory remittances in line with regional guidelines.
• Coordinate with external accountants and advisors regarding annual corporate tax filings, SR&ED claims, and audit engagements.
• Deliver precise documentation and prompt responses to requests from external partners.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Completion or nearing completion of CPA designation.
• Robust technical accounting knowledge, including GAAP and IFRS as applicable.
• Proficient in advanced Excel functionalities, including pivot tables, lookups, and formula logic.
• Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or comparable tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, particularly in reconciling data and identifying financial discrepancies.
• Proven track record of managing comprehensive month-end activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, adjustments, and adherence to reporting deadlines.
• Experience in preparing complete financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Solid understanding of supporting schedules like deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, intercompany accounts, and foreign exchange revaluations.
• Practical experience in preparing or reviewing indirect tax filings and statutory submissions.
• Comfort in engaging with auditors, tax consultants, external accounting firms, or regulatory agencies.
• Experience in identifying process enhancements or implementing controls that improve accuracy, efficiency, or audit preparedness.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, FP&A, Product, and external partners.
• Leadership experience in managing a team, including mentoring, delegating, coaching, and supporting accounting team members.
