Generative AI Graduate Fellow – Technical Research and Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• The New Jersey State Office of Innovation is seeking diverse and skilled team members to implement exceptional innovative and digital services aimed at addressing urgent public interest issues for the residents of New Jersey.

• Our team members take on various roles, contributing to the execution of key projects as well as the ongoing development of the Office of Innovation (OOI).

• We are in search of a generative AI fellow who possesses a keen interest in public service and hands-on experience in researching, developing, and testing LLM tools.

• The Generative AI Graduate Fellow will engage in multiple projects at various stages of development, assisting with research, engineering, evaluation, project management, user research, stakeholder communication, and both written and verbal project communications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Relevant educational background: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program in computer science, data science, engineering, or related fields. Strong candidates who have recently graduated or are currently completing a bachelor's degree will also be considered.

• Proven experience in developing, deploying, or assessing digital tools that involve large language models (LLMs), including via cloud-based APIs.

• Some experience across all levels of the development stack, including but not limited to frontend web applications, backend APIs and databases, and cloud infrastructure.

• Familiarity with technologies such as: Python, modern JavaScript, React, CSS, HTML, JavaScript libraries and frameworks, Amazon Web Services (AWS), SQL and NoSQL document storage, and Git/GitHub version control.

• Research skills that encompass breaking down complex problems, devising custom evaluation plans, conducting research interviews and other qualitative data collection, and performing data analysis for research outcomes.

• Demonstrable ability to approach problems with curiosity, engage in inquiry, and comprehend user needs to create effective solutions.

• Committed to furthering the mission of the Office of Innovation and public service, with a strong dedication to accessibility and the promotion of a more inclusive society.
