Furniture & Product Design Drafter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.

📋 Description

• Develop comprehensive 2D technical drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, assembly views, and exploded views, derived from provided sketches, concepts, and design briefs.

• Generate precise 3D models and assemblies using appropriate CAD software.

• Create fully dimensioned and annotated production-ready documentation for prototyping and manufacturing processes.

• Efficiently revise and update drawings based on internal feedback, testing results, or production needs.

• Offer practical design enhancement suggestions regarding form, function, ergonomics, joinery, and aesthetics while preserving the original design intent.

• Aid in design-for-manufacturability by proposing effective improvements to materials, hardware, and construction techniques to maximize cost efficiency, quality, and production effectiveness.

• Communicate with manufacturers as necessary to clarify technical drawings, discuss material choices, and facilitate efficient production outcomes.

• Compile bills of materials, assembly instructions, and manufacturing specifications.

• Collaborate closely with the Australian product development team through shared files, communication platforms, and regular updates.

• Ensure strong version control and maintain organized project documentation.

• Perform other duties relevant to the position as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience in technical drafting for furniture, product design, or similar manufacturing sectors.

• Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Product Design, Mechanical Drafting, or a related technical field.

• Advanced skills in AutoCAD for accurate 2D technical drafting.

• Familiarity with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or comparable 3D modelling software.

• Experience with SketchUp Pro is highly valued.

• Strong capability to produce clear, precise, and fully dimensioned production drawings with appropriate annotations.

• Good grasp of furniture and product design principles, including joinery techniques, material properties, ergonomics, and hardware integration.

• Ability to propose practical design enhancements that improve manufacturability, functionality, and cost efficiency.

• Experience in liaising with manufacturers to address technical inquiries and refine designs for production.

• Solid understanding of design-for-manufacturability principles and cost-effective construction methods.

• Competence in accurately preparing bills of materials, assembly instructions, and production documentation.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Strong organizational skills, discipline in version control, and a keen attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and reliably in a remote setting with minimal supervision.

• A robust portfolio showcasing high-quality technical drafting work for furniture or related products.
