Functional Safety Engineer, Level 2 – Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Oversee all initiatives and responsibilities associated with functional safety projects

• Implement functional safety and regulatory standards throughout the product development lifecycle

• Conduct system-level hazard analysis and perform HARA activities

• Identify safety functions and create system concept designs that specify safe states

• Ensure that engineering teams supply the necessary data and parameters to assess performance levels

• Convert system safety requirements into safety design architecture and functional safety specifications

• Identify discrepancies between achieved and required PL/SIL values and propose design enhancements

• Assist system and subsystem design teams with FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis

• Keep updated records of roles and responsibilities for functional safety representatives

• Develop strategies for verification, validation, and certification

• Guarantee that functional safety projects are completed on schedule and meet quality standards

• Aid internal and external auditors during compliance assessments

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or related fields

• At least 3-5 years of experience on functional safety projects for off-road machinery

• Proficient understanding of IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ISO 19014

• Experience in defending system-level safety analyses, including FMEA and FTA

• Strong written and verbal communication skills along with effective people engagement abilities

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time

• Must obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport

• Must have the legal right to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
