Functional Safety Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Oversee functional safety initiatives throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to production and post-deployment phases.

• Perform hazard analyses and risk assessments utilizing methodologies such as STPA, FMEA, and FTA.

• Establish and maintain functional safety requirements, ensuring full traceability and adherence to standards.

• Assist in the development of safety concepts, architectures, and safety cases.

• Work collaboratively with systems, software, and hardware teams to embed safety into design processes.

• Lead the execution and validation of risk mitigation strategies.

• Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or specific domain standards).

• Prepare and deliver safety analyses, reports, and documentation for leadership, clients, and regulatory agencies.

• Conduct safety reviews, audits, and facilitate cross-functional discussions.

• Guide junior engineers and advocate for safety best practices among stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–12 years of experience in the field of functional safety engineering.

• Background in one or more sectors: Autonomous systems/robotics, Automotive, Mining/heavy equipment, Agricultural machinery.

• Practical experience with STPA is strongly preferred.

• Certification as CFSE/CFSP/AFSP or as a Functional Safety Engineer, or an equivalent is preferred.

• In-depth understanding of functional safety standards and lifecycle processes.

• Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies (STPA, FMEA, FTA).

• Familiarity with Safety Integrity Levels (SIL/ASIL).
