This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Construct a shared foundation for GitLab Duo clients by developing versioned, publishable TypeScript SDK packages.
• Collaborate on both frontend and backend systems, focusing on the design of the SDK's Node.js core and public API.
• Create secure, thoroughly tested, and efficient TypeScript features to address technical challenges of moderate scope and complexity.
• Deliver small features and enhancements with minimal supervision, ensuring to write tests for every merge request while participating in code reviews and design discussions.
• Extract and publish TypeScript packages from the GitLab Language Server, gradually migrating consumers.
• Design public APIs featuring clear interfaces, semantic versioning, changelogs, and deprecation strategies.
• Develop isomorphic core packages equipped with platform-specific adapters.
• Enhance SDK client surfaces, including Vue 3 components for Duo Chat on the web.
• Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to implement significant architectural modifications.
• Improve credential management across hosts, encompassing bearer tokens, session cookies, and CSRF protection.
• Optimize bundle size, startup costs, and dependency weight for browser consumers.
• Participate in a Tier 2 on-call rotation to address urgent engineering issues.
• Extensive knowledge of TypeScript across both frontend and backend systems, including experience in building and maintaining Node.js services.
• Familiarity with modern build and packaging tools, such as monorepos, multi-module builds, ECMAScript modules (ESM), and dependency management.
• Proficiency in Vue 3 and the Composition API, or similar component-based frontend experience with a willingness to learn Vue.
• Experience in designing APIs for external use, coupled with the ability to articulate potential improvements.
• Understanding of the distinctions between executing code in Node.js and in the browser, and the capability to write code compatible with both environments.
• A security-focused development mindset, emphasizing careful credential management and performance enhancement.
• Strong written communication skills to clearly articulate technical challenges, suggest iterative solutions, and work effectively within an agile framework.
