This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop components and service APIs by utilizing various frameworks and architectures to thoughtfully incorporate features. This role involves hands-on coding.
• Work in collaboration with teammates and other departments to clarify requirements, tackle technical challenges, design effective solutions, resolve production issues, and enhance system performance.
• Implement design patterns to facilitate quality decisions and contribute to maintaining standards via code reviews, tools, testing strategies, and metrics.
• Leverage your experience to make knowledgeable architectural decisions by employing design patterns and best practices to uphold quality through code reviews and metrics. Your exposure to diverse systems will enable you to make effective architectural and scalability choices, thereby supporting smoother workflows and optimizing the development process.
• Assist colleagues through code reviews and pair programming, fostering their skills and enhancing code quality.
• Communicate efficiently with both technical and non-technical teams to nurture a collaborative atmosphere.
• Advocate for innovative ideas and assist others in exploring new methodologies. By sharing context and linking team members to broader objectives, you will help tackle challenges comprehensively and contribute to significant, systemic enhancements while making informed trade-offs.
• Effectively utilize AI-driven IDEs like Copilot and Cursor to analyze existing code, develop features, write unit tests, and debug issues while maintaining responsible oversight and reviewing all outputs.
• Contribute to the engineering practice within the larger organization as needed through activities such as:
• Assisting with outreach, recruitment, and hiring initiatives
• Occasionally participating in or supporting business development efforts, including code or design challenges and writing or reviewing proposal responses
• Engaging in communities of practice
• We anticipate the responsibilities of this role will evolve organically over time, reflecting factors such as the team's needs and strengths, the unique skills and interests of the selected candidate, and the changing landscape of the delivery environment.
• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience
• A relevant Associate's degree counts for 2 years of experience, a relevant Bachelor's degree for 4 years, and a relevant Master's degree for 6 years.
• Extensive experience with modern languages and frameworks, including Ruby on Rails, JavaScript/TypeScript with React, and testing frameworks like React Testing Library and RSpec.
• Experience working with complex architectures across multiple products and business domains while also developing strong expertise in specific areas.
• Demonstrated ability to self-organize by taking ownership of assigning and managing your own workload.
• Strong pragmatic decision-making skills with the ability to assess and navigate trade-offs.
• A robust sense of experimentation, enthusiastic about innovation through hypothesis-driven development.
• Significant experience in maintaining and refining design and implementation choices over time.
• Familiarity with a Service-Oriented Architecture and integrating with the APIs of other teams.
• Experience using AI tools and services for software creation and delivery, along with a willingness to leverage AI to enhance outcomes where suitable.
• Thrives in Agile environments, prioritizing team success and embodying an Agile mindset in all work products.
• A commitment to thorough documentation, ensuring that "institutional knowledge" is captured effectively.
• A strong sense of ownership combined with a collaborative mindset, as the role often requires significant communication with other teams.
• Must have resided and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years.
• Some clients may require occasional travel.
