Full Stack Engineer – Innovation Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement privacy-centric analytics solutions, transforming prototypes into product innovations integrated within Matomo.

• Lead the complete innovation process alongside a small team, collaborating with senior engineers and the CTO.

• Design, prototype, and deploy new functionalities across both backend (PHP) and frontend (JavaScript) platforms.

• Engage with additional technologies like Python and Node.js as necessary.

• Investigate and validate new product concepts, including insights powered by AI.

• Recognize and cultivate innovation opportunities within analytics and user experience domains.

• Maintain a balance between speed and quality while steering clear of over-engineering.

• Proactively spot and address obstacles, escalating issues when required.

• Write automated tests, conduct code reviews, and ensure secure implementation practices.

• Collaborate with Matomo’s co-founders and senior engineers using platforms like Slack and Confluence.

• Disseminate concepts and insights to promote innovation practices throughout the organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in backend development using PHP or Python, along with database management and frontend development in JavaScript.

• Demonstrated success in delivering features from start to finish — from conceptualization through prototyping to production.

• Strong problem-solving abilities with a practical approach to innovation and emerging technologies.

• Capability to work independently within a small, fast-paced team while effectively managing priorities.

• A product-driven mindset, translating user requirements and strategic objectives into actionable and impactful solutions.

• Proficient in balancing swift delivery with enduring engineering quality.

• Knowledge of security vulnerabilities and strategies for mitigation.

• Experience in writing automated tests, reviewing code, and developing technical documentation.

• Excellent English communication skills, capable of clearly articulating ideas, rationales, and trade-offs.

• Comfortable working in a fully remote, global, and agile setting.

• Background in analytics, reporting, data visualization, or AI/ML integrations (considered strong advantages).

• Experience contributing to or developing open-source projects (considered strong advantages).

• Familiarity with UX principles and/or data-informed product design (considered strong advantages).

• Previous experience in innovation, R&D, or product prototyping settings (considered strong advantages).

• Proficiency in the German language (considered strong advantages).

• Familiarity with AI-driven tools and methodologies to enhance experimentation, development, and quality (considered strong advantages).
