Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

• Tackle ambiguous, high-impact challenges and guide them from concept to production.

• Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to establish scope, trade-offs, and execution strategies.

• Design, develop, and refine production systems with a strong emphasis on reliability, accuracy, and maintainability.

• Strike a balance between speed and quality, discerning when to accelerate and when to proceed with caution.

• Co-own the systems you create, which includes on-call duties and incident management.

• Influence technical and product decisions that define the trajectory of your team.

• Elevate team standards by enhancing practices, tools, and processes.

• Strong judgment regarding products and customers; you care about what is built and the rationale behind it.

• Demonstrated ownership of features or systems in production, including reliability and on-call duties.

• Comfort in navigating ambiguity and making informed trade-offs with partial information.

• A continual desire to hone your skills and improve the surrounding systems.

• Exhibits curiosity, practical approach, and a proactive attitude.

• Actively utilizes AI tools in daily workflows to enhance development, debugging, and learning.

• Ability to read legacy code without an immediate urge to rewrite it entirely.

• Experience in backend development using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres.

• Proficient in operating production systems with monitoring and observability (e.g., Datadog).

• Experience working in containerized or cloud-based environments.

• Critical review of AI-generated pull requests with the same skepticism applied to human submissions.

• Experience in mobile development with React Native (desirable but not mandatory).

• Background in building financial, payments, or crypto-related systems (desirable but not mandatory).

• Experience in dynamic or rapidly growing product environments (desirable but not mandatory).
