Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain internal software platforms that facilitate risk, compliance, legal, and operational workflows throughout Upstart Bank.

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to convert business needs into scalable technical solutions and user-friendly experiences.

• Create and manage APIs, integrations, and data workflows that link internal systems with third-party platforms.

• Construct relational data models, authorization frameworks, audit features, and background processing systems to ensure secure and dependable operations.

• Produce technical designs, architectural documentation, and implementation strategies that establish resilient engineering patterns and minimize future maintenance expenses.

• Participate in technical decision-making regarding system architecture, build-versus-buy assessments, and long-term platform scalability.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience) alongside 4+ years of software engineering experience.

• Proven experience in designing, developing, and managing production web applications utilized by internal or external clients.

• Proficiency in designing relational database schemas and handling complex data models with PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database.

• Experience in constructing and maintaining RESTful APIs, integrations, webhooks, or interfaces for distributed systems.

• Knowledge of implementing application security fundamentals, comprising authentication, role-based access control, audit logging, and schema migrations.

• Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, Prisma, or other contemporary web application frameworks.

• Experience in developing internal tools, workflow platforms, or operational software systems.

• Awareness of regulated environments, such as financial services, banking, healthcare, or other compliance-oriented industries.

• Understanding of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platforms, security tools, or operational controls.

• Capability to navigate unclear requirements and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
