Freelance Proofreader

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Conduct orthographic, grammatical, and textual proofreading of editorial materials, ensuring linguistic quality and adherence to Portuguese language standards;

• Review translations and adaptations, verifying fidelity to the original text, reading flow, and suitability for the intended audience;

• Detect and rectify spelling, grammar, punctuation, agreement, typographical errors, and textual inconsistencies;

• Evaluate coherence, clarity, and standardization of texts to provide an optimal reading experience;

• Proofread dialogues, narratives, supporting texts, captions, titles, comic book speech balloons, and other editorial components;

• Confirm character names, specific terminology, cultural references, and information pertinent to the works;

• Ensure proper application of glossaries, editorial guidelines, and project-specific standards;

• Offer notes and recommendations for textual enhancement when necessary;

• Collaborate with translators, editors, layout designers, and other professionals engaged in the editorial workflow;

• Review final materials prior to publication, contributing to the delivery of high-quality editorial products;

• Adhere to proofreading deadlines as outlined in the schedules for each project;

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in proofreading texts and editorial content;

• Exceptional command of Portuguese, including grammar, spelling, and text comprehension;

• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and the capability to identify inconsistencies;

• Experience in proofreading books, magazines, comics, manga, or similar types of materials;

• Ability to adapt to various language styles and target demographics;

• Organized, deadline-oriented, and capable of working independently;
