Fraud Analyst – Payments and Risk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Examine fraud alerts generated by the Bank's monitoring systems to identify unusual, potentially suspicious, or fraudulent activities.

• Conduct prompt, precise, and well-documented investigations into fraud related to retail banking and digital payment transactions.

• Assess customer activities, transaction patterns, account behaviors, and relevant documentation to determine appropriate risk-based actions, including escalation, closure, ongoing monitoring, or referrals.

• Detect fraud trends, typologies, control weaknesses, and emerging risks, and relay observations and recommendations to management.

• Document investigative findings, analyses, conclusions, and supporting justifications in line with departmental standards, procedures, and audit requirements.

• Aid in the preparation and submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).

• Collaborate with BSA Operations, Fraud, Retail Banking, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and program manager stakeholders.

• Conduct or support reviews of adverse media, sanctions, PEP, and other screenings.

• Stay updated on the Bank's products, services, customer demographics, and geographical presence.

• Maintain expertise in BSA/AML compliance requirements pertinent to fraud monitoring, investigation, escalation, and suspicious activity reporting.

• Provide verbal and written updates to management, business partners, and stakeholders regarding investigation outcomes, associated risks, and recommended actions.

• Assist with special initiatives, remediation efforts, policy and procedure revisions, process enhancements, and control improvements related to fraud prevention and monitoring.

• Report any suspicious activities identified while executing job responsibilities.


⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

• At least three (3) years of experience in BSA/AML, fraud, financial crime compliance, or a related risk function within a financial institution.

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience with card or payment channel fraud is preferred.

• Experience in supporting audits, regulatory reviews, remediation initiatives, or quality-control assessments is preferred.

• Strong understanding of fraud detection, alert review, investigative practices, chargeback risks, and digital payment risks.

• Capability to analyze account activity, transaction patterns, customer behaviors, and investigative evidence to draw logical, well-supported conclusions.

• Exceptional analytical, investigative, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the clear documentation of investigative findings, risk mitigation justifications, and recommended actions.

• Demonstrated tact, integrity, and discretion when managing confidential information and interacting with stakeholders.

• Ability to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency in effective collaboration across teams while exercising sound risk-based judgment.

• Highly organized with strong time management skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

• Familiarity with fraud and BSA/AML monitoring software such as Verafin, Unit21, or LexisNexis, or similar platforms is preferred.

• A clear and effective communicator.

• A collaborative team player.

• Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.

• Professional certifications such as CAMS, CFE, CIA, or CRMA are preferred.

• Availability during Eastern Time business hours, irrespective of work location.

• Compliance with applicable Bank Secrecy Act and, where relevant, OFAC requirements.
